9 Ways to Stay Healthy on Your Next Trip

Well 2020 has brought us the Corona Virus, and no you can’t mix lime with it on the beach for a good time. The COVID-19 has officially become a pandemic across the world. With extreme flu-like symptoms it has brought fear to many and exposed cracks in how prepared we are. On 3/11/2020, President Trump announced a 30-day travel ban from Europe to the United States, causing all sorts of havoc in travelers plans. While we realize the ban was set for safety and to limit spreading, we are heartbroken for our travel community. Traveling is the best feeling on earth and to have it limited like this seems wrong on many levels. With that in mind, we took on healthy travel tips that you can rely on.

All that being said, we thought it appropriate to give you our travel essentials to avoid sickness when you are able to get back to it. Obviously paired up with actions like washing your hands (who knew the world had to re-learn this in 2020?), getting sunshine, staying hydrated, and staying vigilant with what foods you are trying are all easy ways to help beat the bug.

5 Go-to Products for Healthy Travel

  1. Emergen-C Immune Plus with Vitamin C, D and Zinc: These packets are small, lightweight, and can be mixed up in a water bottle. Anytime we fly, we try to grab a box of these in order to beat anything headed our way. We really like the Immune Plus version because it helps get us the Vitamin D we may be missing spending hours on a plane PLUS it adds Zinc to fight any underlying symptoms we might be having. Plus, it comes in great flavors like blueberry acai and raspberry. BONUS: Emergen-C also has other great products that boost hydration and energy to help you fight jet lag.
  2. Wet Ones Antibacterial Hand Wipes: We usually buy these in bulk in advance so we can get 20 packs of 10. This is always cheaper than buying them in airports or while traveling. They can be used to wipe down just about anything and everything. One of the main uses is an airplane seat/tray table. You always hope these are clean but having this extra insurance gives you peace of mind that you will be germ free for your flight.
  3. REPEL Plant Based Inset Repellent: This highly rated bottle of repellant actually works, shocking I know. Containing the oil of lemon eucalyptus, it actually smells good and is DEET-free. Great for avoiding bugs and making sure you don’t get any extra bites.
  4. Eos Super Soft Shea Lip Balm : These are essentials in both of our travel bags, often with backups in our backpacks. This lip balm is the best for women, simply put. It’s soft, effective, and keeps our lips from drying out while traveling.
  5. Olly Sleep Gummies: Our go-to sleep aid that allows us to get sleep even in uncomfortable places (i.e. airplanes). These gummies and small and effective without leaving us groggy the next day. We have tried many alternatives and have landed on these. We recommend them to all of our family and friends!

Olly Gummies offer a great way to relax and get real sleep in stressful travel situations, without the groggy morning. The ultimate healthy travel buddy.

Okay, worst case scenario hits and you do get sick. Plan in advance with some over-the-counter medicine so you don’t have to rummage through the Pharmacia in Mexico hoping to understand the labels. A couple suggestions for healthy travel go-to’s:

  • Pepto-Bismol : because we all know stuff happens and being uncomfortable in a place where you don’t know very well is the worst. Plan ahead with the Pepto chewable tablets that are easy to take and will elevate your symptoms quickly. Trust us, you don’t want to be stuck without these handy.
  • TUMS: Okay, so you ate that extra spicy thing that sounded amazing and was amazing but now your stomach is fighting back. With so many new and different foods, its inevitable. Having TUMS handy gives you piece of mind and control over your stomach.
  • Claritin: Your system is used to home and can easily be thrown for a loop with different allergens in the air. Grab Claritin meltable tabs and let them do the work so you can enjoy the new beautiful city you’re in and now worry about your allergies. Remember: allergy meds can sometimes take time to work, so taking these in advance never hurts.
  • Advil: My best friend while traveling. Advil is my go-to for most ailments. Headaches, backaches, and the occasional swollen ankle I’m always getting. Advil definitely provides relief quickly and effectively.,

Stuff Happens. Be Prepared!

We hope these products give you some peace of mind when you take your next trip. With all the worry and fear, the beautiful parts of travel can get lost in the background. If you’re traveling somewhere soon, stay safe and protect yourself but enjoy the ride!

Cheers to chasing our compass!
